Γεννήθηκε το 1945 στο Χατφιλντ και ξεκίνησε την καριέρα του σαν τραγουδιστής του αξιόλογου γκρούπ των 60s, ZOMPIES. Με τη διάλυση τους συνεχίζει σαν σόλο γράφοντας μια σειρά ικανοποιητικών άλμπουμ. Το 1972 ανεβαίνει στην κορυφή των τσαρτ με το θαυμάσιο σίνγκλ " Say You Don't Mind ".
